    Spencer 8/12-13

Headed to the spencer sunday and began trolling around 2pm. Had one yellowfin on the troll around 4pm on the ne wall, it hit a 9" canyon runner rainbow squid bar.

Nothing more till we set up at night on the northeast corner in 520 feet..

throughout the night we had more 12"+ squid around the boat than i've ever seen.. and man they were aggressive...

we ended up filling about 7 five gallon buckets full of huge squid..squid jigs, diamond jigs, dip net all managed squid effortlessly. we had so much squid we ended up cutting many of them into chunks and threw them over..

the highlight of the trip for me was a large sword we fought for an hour plus between 2am and 3am.. at the end of the fight, with the mainline very chaffed, we chaffed through the leader with the fish about 5 feet out of range of our poon harpoon. conservatively, i'll call the sword 300 but it most likely went 325.

ended up 5 for 8 on yellowfin on the chunk with most of the fish taken on live or fresh dead squid.

trolled into the 40 fathom line in the morning and got a bite out of a white marlin on a pink/pink islander over horse ballyhoo, but it dropped off quickly.

i'll go to 300 or 400 mono but i'd rather get the bites on 250.

    i'm 0 for 1 on swords over 300 on 250# test

    and

0 for 2 on swords over 300 on 300# test...

i don't know how much heavier i can go and keep getting bites.

i'll keep rigging them on 250 or 300, keeping trying to get the bites, and hope the luck returns to our favor.

    Stew,
Don't forget that those Swords are blind as a bat! Honestly, #250 should be fine! I was using #80 when I caught mine, it bit a Butter rigged for Tuna.
