Made an early run out with my father and son for a boys trip to chase after some speckled trout. We left Gulfport, MS harbor around 4:15 with the plan to zip out in the forecast 5-10 mph winds and 1-2 foot seas to arrive at the eastern edge of the LA marsh for some early top water action. Needless to say the 5-10 was not as forecast so we had a bumpy and slow ride out. We worked all around Brush Island and Door Point, but the water was dirty and we were only picking up small trout and catfish so we headed to the gas wells.
We hit three spots before we found the fish. My son did the real work locating the fish way off the rig. Once we found them, the bite was non-stop. The bite shut down before we reached a limit, but we had over 60 fattrout, 4 nice spanish and a few sheephead just to keep it interesting. The trout were all nice size with most going over 2 lbs and a few near 3.5. A great day on the water with three generations - it doesn't get much better than that.
