No boat work and not having anything else to do yesterday plus the fact that the weather was phenomenal I decided on a solo trout quest. Dropped the skiff in and ran to some areas I have not fished in years. First stop was the deep edge of a grass bar in 3'-4' of water. First cast and bang, nice little speck comes up shaking its head. For the next hour worth of casts it was trout after trout but all were small between 12"-20". Caught probably 30+ then decided to take a little boat ride south. This spot is a separated grass bar that falls to a dark mud bottom with intermittent pot holes. Perfect winter time trout habitat and boy were they home. Same thing, one after the other but these were on average bigger than the last spot. The bite was so ridiculous I called a friend over to join in. Fished another hour with who knows how many fish caught. Let's just say I dulled 3 jigs which is hard to do just by catching trout. Most fish were keepers with the biggest around 26" and I would guess 5+lbs. Had enough with the trout after a while so I spent the afternoon burning some gas just enjoying the day. First 2 pics are from my cell, sorry for the quality. Last pic is of the 26" fish, my friend was close so he snapped a pic for me. She bled a little but was spunky and released to perpetuate her species. It was nice to get out alone, not have to worry about everyone else onboard catching fish and not to have a 50+' boat to clean at the end of the day.
