Fished on a friends boat Sat. out of Southport. Left the dock around 4:45 and had lines in at 7:15 at the Steeples. Picked up a small yellowfin on the shoutgun pretty quick, then got bit off on the planer about 30 mins later. After hearing about all the big wahoo in the area the last couple weeks, we decided to send a horse ballyhoo down on a black/orange islander. about 20 minutes later the Penn 50 started screaming. 15 minutes later a nice 50lb wahoo was in the boat. After this start to the day we thought we were going to be hard at it all morning but we were wrong. At 1:30 without another bite and not seeing any bait in the area we picked up and ran south about 10 miles and found a nice break that went from 72.5 to 74. Fished that a while with no luck and decided to move off and search for something else. About 15 minutes later we saw the first good bait of the day and the right short starts screaming. Got a 25lb YF in the boat. Lines back out and trolled back over the same spot and bam, 3 lines hooked up. Boated two more yellowfin and repeated this processs until we had out limited of yellowfin!!!! Biggest was probably around 35lbs. While we were fighting the last two fish there were tunas skying all over the place chasing flying fish. It was a spectacular sight to see and a great way to finish the day.
