What kind of fishing does your buddy do? I fish out of Port Isabel and could probably get him some names. Bay, fly or spin? Offshore? I'm sure you know Spring Break starts this coming Monday virtually making the island off limits to any sane person over the age of 22.

Cut and paste this in your browser and it will bring up the South Padre Island Chamber of Commerce page for fishing charters. Call Jim's Pier for some great bay fishing guides. Gilbert works out of there and he is a truly class snook fisherman. Under the offshore listings are a number of headboats, if you are a snapper fisherman, that may be what you are looking for. If not, ask about Skipper Ray. He has been marlin fishing down here since before I could get here.
He won't be cheap but with diesel at $3.25 forget about cheap.
The winds blow pretty hard this far south until well into July but we often don't see another boat and the water will be warm and indigo.
