    This sound right ???

    Pacific Blue Marlin weight calculator

    Measure the fish from tip of the nose to the fork of the tail (this will be called the LENGTH MEASUREMENT ).
    Now measure around the fish in front of the Pectoral Fins (this will be called the GIRTH MEASUREMENT ).

    • Now take the girth measurement and square it (multiply it by itself - if the measurement was 25 inches then would be: 25 x 25= 625 ).

    • Now multiply the girth number squared (625) by the length measurement (lets say 125 inches) ( 625 x 125 = 78125 ).

    • Now divide by 650

    Most fish its measured from the lower jaw to fork of tail for length then times girth squared then divide by 800 as "the number" Girth goes all the way around the fish not just top to bottom. If you have a 125" blue marlin with only 25" of girth I think your more likely looking at an eel...

    This was from the same site as to the number to divide by:

    Use the following divisors when making the final division in the above formula:

    * North Atlantic Sailfish - 1500
    * North Atlantic Spearfish - 1500
    * White Marlin - 1300
    * Striped Marlin - 950
    * North Atlantic Blue Marlin - 800
    * Black Marlin - 700
    * Indo / Pacific Blue Marlin - 650

    For most other species normal used 840

    Appears someone is trying to reinvent the wheel... Stick with the 800 formula and you'll be pretty close.

    Kinda glanced over the site. Intentions seem to be in right place but comming light in a few other areas. Old Man and the Sea "writted " by Ernest Hemmingway?

    The problem with a general formula that goes by total length is that bills length can vary greatly from fish to fish. I have seen 700 pound fish with real short fat ones and little 250 class fish with bills that look closer to swordfish length but skinny.

    If you look at the diagram they are measuring the marlin from the lower jaw.
