I fished with a friend a couple years back who was trying to qualify for Avalon. You have to catch a Striped marlin or Tuna over a 100 or 140 pounds on 20 pound linen( cant remember the exact details, maybe you can ask). But we hooked 5 Stripies and 2 were definitely qualifying fish, but you couldnt stop the fish or exert any pressure with that linen, any pressure and it would snap. Which makes alot of those catches so impressive.
Great fishery cant wait to get back out there again
Thanks for the pics
A buddy of mine hit one of them sunfish, really messed up the running gear. I still don't understand how he didn't see it, They kinda just mill around on the surface. Brian keep up the good work, excellent shots. Tim
That 500 lb black amazed me. I never realized black marlin came so far up the coast of western North America.

Thanks Bryan, that was awsome. And I through the 300lb plus sunfish we have around here are big.
Man that is so cool, i wonder how they caught those big fish back then thinking about the tackle that we use today....
Thanks for sharing. It really goes to show how much the fishery has changed in the last 80 years (not for the better). Hopefully one day we will be catching 150lb bluefin here again.
Great stuff, nice to see that history preserved. It's amazing how much the fishery has changed in such a relatively short time. Does anyone know the status of the Black Bass these days?
The old gear is cool too. Imagine taking your linen line out in your wooden boat with a half baked compass, then finding, and catching, and landing some of these fish.
