That would have been a sweet fish in a king tournament! The crazy thing is that I was just trying to see if we would get a sail bite in shallow (becaues of the east wind that day) so the bait was on a flourocarbon leader. I saw the boil and reeled down as fast as I could and the circle hook went right in the corner. Even so, i would say we got pretty lucky to catch this fish. Usually we only fish mono starting around Dec. 1 when the sail bite really starts to turn on but we have caught so many nice kings I think we are going to stick with the wire tracers except on the really hot sail days and during the Sailfish tournaments.
We are fishing out of Boynton now which is a really interesting spot. There is a fixed bridge and the inlet is trecherous so there is no sport fleet. We are too far south for the Palm Beach charter boats to run south and too far for the Boca charter fleet to run North so there is not much pressure in the area. There is plenty of bait to catch as well so it has really been a great spot. I spent three seasons in Stuart and five seasons in Palm Beach and I would say that Boynton bar far has the best King bite (big fish) and the most consistant sail bite. The place is loaded with the top boats during the tournaments!
