I can't fathom being 60 + miles off in a 22 footer with a single motor and having a freak wind front blow up on you. That is a very, very long ride home...
I do have one story, about 10 years ago I was trolling outside of the 500 fathom tongue in the hudson canyon, I see a boat running at me from the west, he blasts right by me full scream ahead, he is in a 25 ft mako single engine, heads to the east
going going gone. over the horizon, I couldn't see him from the bridge, so I continue to troll south, two hours later here he comes again heading west, pulls right into the west wall and anchors for the night right next to me. well that evening a nasty line came in from the southwest that blew 35 for an hour. seas never laid down. in the morning at first light it was 20 out of the NE and an honest 6-8ft.(standing on deck, looking up at the wave tops three feet above my head) those three guys in that center console spent all night with no protection, could see two of them puking over the side, we had a great morning and put 10 fish in the boat and headed home.
the guy in the c/c was pulling his anchor by hand at last sight. they were some crazy muthers
