SMALL BOAT. . . BIG WIN

Hey guys, been really busy recently and have not been able to post too much.

Fished the OC Small Boat tournament this weekend on the LEGASEA.

We were entered into the Inshore and Offshore divisions as our plan was to pick up a big bluefish then go hunting for sharks. Started out with a little bit of a snotty ride out, but the faster we went, the better she rode, so we get lines in by just a few min after 6:30 and try for the bluefish. We had a steady pcik of ones and twos, but all were skinny and short. . . we continue and finally start to nab a few larger ones, but nothing much over 10lbs.

745 hits and its time to switch over to shark fishing. Made a 12mi run to my hole that has been producing the past few days and we have a perfect drift.

    By 10am, not a pull. . .

    By 10:30, not a pull. . .

At 11, John Rodgers hears the bow clip pop and grabs the rod. The ballon is doin its dance and we hear a quick short run, then nothing. . .

The shark charges the boat and john drops a gear and catches up with him. Does a great job setting the hook and gets the mako to the boat. The only prob was he was only about 30lbs. He gives us a erally cool show doing cartwheels right off the boat, then graciously releases himself to fight another day.

back to drifting. . . 11:30, no more pulls

    12, no more pulls

we are getting ready to move when the 2nd deep rod goes off.

Kenny grabs the rod and sets the hook. We get the shark to the boat and Chirs (Bucktales) does a great job on the gaff and John Rodgers gets the tail rope on him. Not a huge mako, but I know he will weigh for us. . .

we start to drag him backwards and we get our tuna spread set. Do this for about 30 min and get the shark tied off in the mean time. We have no tuna pulls and we are not in the best spot for them, so we head back inshore looking for the elusive big bluefish.

Once again, no blues bigger than 10lbs, so we head for the barn.

When we hit the scales, we had a first place shark!!!

I really want to thank my crew for a great day, John, Chris, Kenny, and Kathy. . . you guys were awsome!!!

Hopefully john will post the pic of us at the scales

Johnny, had a great time fishing with you once again, always exciting. Great to meet John Rogers, Kathy and Kenny, great crew and alot of laughs.
Terp...that's good advice man. I fished Sat and Sun and my wife would like to string me up right now. She's really going to shit when I tell her I'm fishing this weekend.
