    Slow fishing

on the Preadtor for the first hour. Lots of grass and a lot of it scattered. Started off at 150' and fished off to 350' busting through weed line after weed line with no temperature break. Finely @ 370' nice weed line made up running north & south. Worked to the north on the inshore side about 2 or 3 miles crossed over and worked the offshore side back with out a single bite. Saw no Dolphin and few flyers. In the distance I saw fish airing out but from where we were I could not tell what they were. Headed that way and still no bites. Warren, the mate came up and we discussed what to do...go off shore or go back and work the inshore structure of the break. Being closer to the inshore structure I opted to move in and work the shallows knowing that Warren hates to fish in 150' to 180' foot of water.
Working up to the top side into 180', not much marking, off in the distance I see a nice weed line and move that way, when I spot the Long line buoys. I hate to see them but a lot of times the fishing is good around them. I worked that way on the top side of the break when we got the first bite, 25 to 30 pound Wahoo in the box. Thank God...black & white has left the boat. Bring the boat back up to speed and the shotgun pops out of the clip with a clean miss. Tried to get it to bite but could get it to come back. Turned the boat back north to come across the area again when I notice the big Coast Guard Cutter off shore of us and the ammo boat that loaded at Sunny Point yesterday, no worries. Turn back to the south and start working back to where the Wahoo bite was, and things got very interesting. This is where having someone with knowledge what is happing and the ability to know what to do comes into effect. Planer rod goes off but nothing is on it. Warren notices that the rod is being tapped. Looks up at me and said Sailfish... reels the planer up to the rod tip and goes for the pitch bait rod and slides it down the plainer line and hooks ups. Mean time I'm looking out over the spread knowing that there is more than one when I spot the one near the left short. Warren gets the guy in the chair with the first hookup and I tell him left short. He calmly walks over and twitches the line twice and it comes out of the rigger and the second Sail is on. I take the boat out of gear for the first and start clearing lines starting with the left short witch was the closest to where the last Sail was hooked. I reel it in very fast and stop and twitch the line, nothing, bring it closer in-between the 2 fish and do it again, damn, their he is, 3 rd one on and Warren is working on releasing the first which has gone nuts at the back of the boat. All lines cleared but one and it is off to the right last Sail hooked off to the left and short rigger fish off to my right. Warren said lets get them and the last Sail hooked was touched released with in 45 seconds of hook up. I think this fish must have been very confused cause Warren grabbed its bill, unhooked it lifted it in the boat for a picture and released it with little fight and we were on to the last fish. Backed down on that fish quickly it was lifted in the boat picture taken and returned back to the sea. Triple header Sails, hooked, landed, and released. My only regret is that I could not get one of the guys to come up and video. From here which is a long day, we had 2 Tunas, 2 Wahoos & 2 Dolphin for the day. All afternoon long I could see Tunas, Wahoos and one other Billfish off shore of us airing out which was very cool!

Sorry for the poor pictures, but it is hard to drive the boat and take pictures or take them in the rain when we get back to the dock.

    VA Dixieland Delight?

That's one terrific day of laundry on the rigger (especially a triple) and steaks on the grill.

    Bravo!
