    Slow day in Southport

Headed out to the Blackjack at 4:30 yesterday in search of Tuna and Wahoo. After working that area with no action we headed deep in search of warm water. Never really found a break just gradual increase in temp and ended up in 100 fathoms, 73.3 degrees. Started heading back inshore when the left short explodes and before we can clear lines 3/4 of the TLD is gone. I immediately think Marlin, and just when we start gaining some line back a big blue one comes out of the water 300 yds from the boat. On the second jump he snaps the line and keeps on gettin it. We were not even close to being prepared for a fish that size and were not really expecting it.

New respect goes out to you guys that can catch those awesome fish on a regular basis.

Worked our way back into about 50 fathoms and marked really good bait in a few places. Fished hard on the good bait but couldn't entice any hits. Sounded very slow for everybody on the radio so we headed in to catch a grouper or two.

Ended the day with two really nice gags, a nice red, and one hell of a memory of a Blue Marlin laughing at us and he sped into a new area code.
