    single or twin engines??

Had a short but interesting conversation come up through some PM's sent to a fellow SPCer.

Does single or twin engines raise more fish? catch more fish? What are the benefits of each?

Being in the right area with the correct baits out raises more fish. Some guys just have a knack for locating fish, no matter what size/kind/engine the boat they are on is equipped with. One thing I do believe is big diesels may raise a few more fish. But that in my opinion has more to do with how far the vibrations from the vessel radiate out. It's like trying to get someone's attention, the louder you yell the more attention you get.

If you are running and hit something and twist up a prop, or are running and an engine craps out....twins will still get you home.

when I use to keep my boat at pirates cove in nc, one of my dock mates was the charter boat Finatic. It was a single screw wood boat built by warren oneil. I believe it was his first boat ever built. Even though Brian, the captain, was an "inshore" boat, he caught more billfish with that thing. The fish just ate the transom on that boat, even when fishing inshore of offshore grounds. I totally believe in the combo of boat and engines raising fish.

Maybe it's just me, but I just feel better having multiple engines when you can't see land.

The boat "Finatic" was Capt. Omie Tillets boat the "Sportsman" when it was first built. I think it was built in 1961 ??? It has seen it's share of Billfish thats for sure. The boat now runs out of Broadcreek in Wanchese and is owned by someone else. The new owners completely refurbished the boat,it's still a great looking rig.
When Brian gave it up, I took his slip in Pirates Cove, which I eventually purchased and started running my charter business from there. Small world, what was the name and make of your boat ?? I was a mate on Vernons boat, the "Sea Hunter" for a couple of winters during Striper season.
