The boat now runs out of Broadcreek in Wanchese and is owned by someone else. The new owners completely refurbished the boat,it's still a great looking rig.
When Brian gave it up, I took his slip in Pirates Cove, which I eventually purchased and started running my charter business from there. Small world, what was the name and make of your boat ?? I was a mate on Vernons boat, the "Sea Hunter" for a couple of winters during Striper season.

Hey Troy, I spent many many hours drinking and shootin the sheet with Vern and the crew on that dock. He had a younger mate, Miles, who had been with him a long time, then moved on to a boat at oi fishing center. Troy, I believe when you were at the virginia beach fishing center you ran my boat around the other side to get hauled out after i left town. 29 dawson with twin cummins. I was having some alignment problems and was stuck in vb for a week.(dont think u remember maybe)

There was an article in Marlin (I think.... It was a while ago) about sounds that attract fish, and it stated that predators are more attracted to throbbing sounds than constant sounds. That is something that is readliy achieved with twins by running them out of synch.

The article then went on to say that the military did tests during WWII and determined that aircrews became fatigued and irritable siginificantly faster from long term exposure to the rhythmic throb of unsynchronized engines. So I guess this means you'll have an excuse to be cranky even if you're catching fish.

Does anybody have any firsthand experience with this, or is it a story pulled out of somebody's @$$ to fill space in a magazine?
IE8 says this may be a phishing site....Well, DUH!!!!!!... Stupid jerks can't even spell fishing right.

Ok my time to chime in

Well, if I were fishing anywhere but in NC, I would probably have a twin enging boat, but I probably would not be able to be an owner operator anywhere but NC, and as an owner operater that is actually trying to earn a living, a single engine is the only way to go, unless you are independantly wealthy.

We fish every day with a substantial fleet and 90% of the boats are single wheel boats, and we watch out for each other. I have towed boats in and have been towed in myself a couple of times. (one was a broked shaft and one was a broke gear) thats twice in 10 years bout 150 trips a year.

But that was not the boy's original question. he asked about the fish raise ability of twins versus single.

In my opinion, single engine boats see more fish, because of a cleaner trolling wake and less tubulance / noise in the water, thats not to say that some times the twin engine boats see em, you still got to drive over them.

BTW, I plan on building myself a new charterboat sometime in the next 5 to 10 years, and it will likely be a single engine boat.

I have run them both and you just can't beat when he swims up and eats the flat line and it is swimmin in deep blue water with no turbulance!

If you got two engines and one does not start, you still aint goin fishin.

Capt Jay makes a decent point. But hatteras boats have the closest run on the east coast and gettign towed in from 20-30 miles is a lot more bearable ton 60-100....

    Don't know if...

single engine boats raise more fish, but I do think that diesel boats raise more fish and I believe diesel wood / cold molded diesel boats raise em' best. I have never been towed in, but I have limped home on one engine a couple of times. We even came home from about 35 miles out on throttles & gear shifts after a steering failure. Personally with runs that can be up to 90 miles one way, I like the idea of being able to get home under my own power and so I will take two please.

I think the issue is how much you use it as far as reliability goes on a private boat. You fish at a place like Hatteras or OI there is always another charter boat fishing if there was a problem unless you are a select few that dont mind pushing the envelope, we know who they are. Look at Chip and the old Temptress I dont know if you could get any better and that was twin. I think a smaller prop wash looks better but you look at the numbers and it is mostly being at the right place and taking advantage of your bites. I have spent a lot of time on both and would say its more in having your shit right and being there! I have seen more improvement keeping your running gear right than anything.
