Shark Tourney Protest

Maybe I missed it on here, but I can't believe that no one has mentioned the ad being run by the Humane Society in local MD papers.

There is a picture of a Thresher hanging at the scales of the OCFC (presumably during the Shark Tourney last year). The ad is calling shark fishing a cruel and brutal sport, or something to that effect, and is saying that it is not too late to stop the OC Shark Tourney (which is run next week). Some of the higher ups at the Fishing Center say that they are fearful of a protest.

I know that DJ Paulo of WQMR (101) here in OC made some calls to hopefully get someone responsible for the content in the ad to debate with local sharkers on his radio show fishing segment this Thursday at 2 pm.

I guess we are all too busy worrying about the mistakenly killed Great White, and we are missing out on the Humane Society trying to shut down one of our premier sharking events. Hopefully us fishing folk will put a stop to our donations to this, and other similar, Animal organizations. I know I will.

I had to stop my wife from donating to the humane society last month. Most people have no idea they are against fishing.
Maybe it will bring some good publicity to the tournament. Most people aren't going to buy into their bull----.

If it was'nt such a waste I'd dump one right on thier front steps. I guess all those hypocrites have never eaten a burger or had a tuna fish sandwhich. I'm so tired of thier hypocracy I can't see straight. Why do we as humans have to believe we are so above being part of the food chain. What will they eat after they decide lettuce suffers when you pluck it from the ground.

I heard a rumor that Mark is caving to that ad and changing tournament rules so that only one thresher can be weighted per boat for the entire tournament.

Kayvan, I hadn't heard that one yet. Don't quite see what difference that logic would make. Hell, how many boats catch more than one weighable Thresher in the tourney?? Be the number is low.

I do have to agree that any giving of an inch will lead to the taking of a mile. Giving in admits fault. Of which the OC Shark tourney has none.

Mark's tournament stresses conservation more than any other shark tournament I know of, and Mark is by far one of the most conservation minded people I know. Why the hell would they pick his tournament out of the rest? I didn't know that these people were against fishing. I thought they were just trying to save furry little things. Hell I'd like to catch a big thresher! Just my opinion but, I do think it's bad publicity to hang a big pregnant thresher that's full of pups. The news people eat it up and it just helps the animal rights people make their case.

franky I think someone posted it in Mix it up.

My wife is pissed. She suggested that instead of showing up and protesting the tournament they should do something useful like patrolling the thousands of parked vehicles that will be in OC to find the 10 dogs that will probably die do to idiots that keeps pets in their parked cars.

Protest

The guys in the picture are fishing the tournament with us, thay never gave permission for the picture used in the ad, [just so everyone knows thay have nothing to do with it]. I wonder if thay have any legal recourse? Maybe a lawsuit would take some wind out of the sails of the inhumane society. I hope we catch a nice thresher to hang so the protesters can start a scrap book!
