I just hope this does not get out of hand. I do not want to see protesters at an event that takes so much time for kids to be involved and is really at the top of the heap from a conservation point of view. For those that do not know him, Capt. Mark Sampson is a class act that goes above and beyond when it comes to "doing the right thing"

2 years ago my wife (who teaches 5th grade at BIS) asked Mark to come in and do a presentation on the Artificial Reefs system here in OC. Mark took a day of his time to spend with 5th graders. And the kids loved every minute of it. They made special thank you cards and talked about for weeks after he left.

If the Animal groups want to pick on someone there are much easier targets out there than Mark Sampson and the OC Shark Tourney. They should have chosen better quarry.

Franky said it well....Mark is a first class professional and very conservation minded....probably the MOST conservation minded captain in the Fishing Center (other than maybe Monty). This just goes to show that some of these animal rights organizations are waayyyy out in right field. You think you are donating $ to save and feed dogs and cats and next thing you know they are using your contribution to do this crap. KNOW WHO YOU ARE DONATING TO AND WHAT THEIR CAUSES ARE!!

I hope they don't protest cause that probably would turn ugly with a marina full of fishermen...especially late in the day after they've had time to have a few cocktails.

I don't know if any of you fish the Oak Bluffs Monster Shark tournament but the humane society and PETA tried to have that stopped last year. They had multiple sit down talks with the town officials trying to stop it. Greg Skomal a marine bioligist from Woodshole was in a big help in keeping the tournament on. He said that the sharks brought to the dock helps scientist with figuring shark behavoir and such. I forget the stats but in the tournament the fish that are killed and hung at the dock are not even a drop in the bucket compared to all the ones that were tagged and released.

The other funny thing that I noticed was for a group that promotes itself as being so large, great and powerfull. We saw only one crazy a-hole in a zodiac in the middle of the entrance to Oak Bluffs harbor holding a "save the sharks" sign. He was vocally bashed by every boat as they returned to port and the Coast Guard later removed him for impeading the traffic in and out of the harbor. Other than that I did not see any other protestors the entire weekend.
Hopefully they do not have an effect on your tournament.

    Shark Tourney Protest

I hope there is a law in place to prevent the protestors from marching within the crowds at the Fishing Center during the weigh-ins. It is private property, right? If they can’t be stopped, it would be a very sad sight.

    Well said wahoo...

They do need to focus more on the little fuzzy critters. There are too many chinchillas, bull gerbals, and panda bears to be saved. Why are they worried about a mean eating machine with a steel trap for a mouth, a lousy dentist, and an appetite for destruction. When they ask you what you caught that big mako on jusat tell em' " Oooooh, slow trolled kittens and a few bridled up bushy tailes with a pink squid slid over top his head. Hard to rig them squirrles and make em swim."

I hope the protest doesnt happen. It will likely get out of hand and that would be disasterous for the tournament. Mark built this tournament and has always been conservation minded long before anyone else even was thinking about it. He doesnt deserve a protest. He should be applauded for his conservation efforts.
Jeezus H. Christ, who's next? They gonna go after Monty for sea bassin?

I have fished in this great tournament for years. If they protest then we should do protest of our own at the humane society. The fact is they kill more cats and dogs than we kill sharks. Pour cats and dogs!!!!!

There is a reaosn this is the only tournament I fish. Mark is a class act and if he gives these idiots an inch then we are in big trouble. I wonder if they do protest if we as a group could agree to just completely ignore them alltogether. They do this crap for attention and to provoke a reaction. If we ignore them and proceed with professionalism they will give up. they are looking for a fight or anything that will get them on the news. Just ignore them guys they are'nt worth it one bit.

I was a Florida Sportsman show in the Panhandle one year and we had the bunny boinkers show up there... It was irritating for a while. Most of the vendors just ignored the noise.
There was a company years back called "Dik Head Lures" ... It was run by a great gal who's name escapes me right now... Well, she and I were on the same page and started with a gang mooning of the fur fondling scums.

It went into a double dose of good solid Deepin... She kept pace with me as we made the bb's cry... "I just love them leather shoes you're wearin. Poor little moo moo is gonna miss daddy or mommy tonight cause of you...' "Moo moo has a brain and feelings unlike our pea brained water bound buddies. Now go away before I rig you subliterate morons for catfish bait... Thats the only species I know that enjoy eating shit..." It was a lot of fun!!!!

So don't let the "tender ones" ruin your day... Turn it back on them make your community proud...
