California Lifestyle//So nice...
OK, one of our guys just stopped in used a custom rigged Bait-O-Matic I did up for him last week.
Last Saturday..
7 sharks, 3-4 Makos rest Threshers...... hung one at 388Lb's in Newport!
1 3/4 hour fight, broke his Penn rod at boatside, fish did not like gaff to head![]()
Look's like the red hot Thresher bite is slowing down and the Mako's are starting to show..
Sunday we did a early moring run tight off-shore to Long Beach/Huntington about 3-4 miles out to where 3 awesome canyons converge..Goes from 150' to over 1,000' down shear cliffs... pretty awesome while you are looking at the beach
Bait and Birds thick most of the morning, trolled 4 baits and had a couple early knock-downs, nothing stuck...
Finally got a decent bite worked the Mako close to the boat when she rolled backwards, looked like she was foul hooked or got wrapped in the line, she goes somewhat loco on the surface and POP, there goes the hook and our smaller Mako...looked to be around 100lbs maybe more..
Day get's slow, except for a killer Cuda massacre close by on the Huntington flats, probably gorging themsleves on all the bait...
Time to pull em in and head in... as I am pulling the last mack bait, sunshine rigged in..Andy say's Look, Look, Mako...
The Mako followed my bait right ot the transom and peeled of, I dropped her back, Andy tossed in a second bait and we proceed to chum up slowly the last of our macks, looking for her to take a bait... No go..not interested..
So that's it, next week it's Mako time plan on getting out to some near shore banks and working some Mako action...
Note: a 422 Thresher and some 200-300's where caught the week and half before but last 10 days has been reasonably slow, doesn't mean their gone but slow right now...
