    Talking SHark Seminar North End!!!!

Ok boys and girls... Posted this one while most of you were away instead of doing SFC things... I had a ton of people requesting a shark seminar up north because they couldn't get down to the one at Cape MAy... So I went and asked around for a place. We got that... We have a few people signed up but not the big wave we were expecting yet...
So I'm gonna run it up again...

A lot of people have shown interest in another shark seminar farther north and thanks to a friend named Jon I think we were able to find a location...
It appears that we have found a site to run another shark seminar on the north end about 15 minutes from Point Pleasant area... I will post up location details and directions shortly. I would like to thank Jon for his help in making available the fire house substation...
Like our southern class we will be covering everything from painfully boring basics to adreneline pumping "mock" fishing drills. My goal is to have everyone that attends not only competent but confident in the art of mako fishing and a very real threat to win in any tournies they join.
Email me at Compangms@aol.com if you want in... Space will be limited but from the input I have received back from people we should be able to fit everybody that wants in...
Class is slated to begin Sunday June 17th at 9:AM... Bring pen, paper, a pair of wire cutting pliers, and something to carry home a bait woul make the rig for and rig in class.

Ok... Somebody's kidding... This post has been up here for five hours. Forty reads, no posts, and only one new PM on the subject???? I had dozens and dozens of requests for this. We had a man step to the plate and offer up a nice place for the class and right now we are only maybe half way full??? This is SFC! We are all on one page wanting to gain knowledge... I'm here to load your heads with everything that thirty plus years of chasing the cobalt missiles has taught me... My head is overflowing and I gots to share it!

Heck even if you can't attend put your sharkin question right here and i'll answer it...

Though there are a zillion ways to rig things out , for me there is one thing that is always a consatnt in my spread. Its wind on mono and then fairly short single strand wire...
Why wind on and why mono? I'm not gonna get in a pissing contest here. Wind on, you will not have couls of stuff laying in the pit with the potential problems it can cause. Murpy's law works overtime on boats and a coil is an accident waiting to happen. Why mono and not cable... Mono will forgive. Its not likely to cut into a glove or score a set of guides like twisted steel can. Cutting into that glove is another recipie for disaster. It can grab and send you swimming. I have seen cable also litterally cut the guides of a rod in just one or two high pressure passes. Thats the why...
I go with three wind on systems... One I ise with open guides on my tld 25 sets is a bimini twist to make a short double line, this is attached by double uni knot to 20' of 100lb hard shell sufix leader and capped with a 150lb class snap swivel... On my 50w outfits they get done right again with a bimini double. Then those sticks get a 20' 200lb handcuff type wind on... A third one I use on my 80's is a single line tied to a spro swivel and 20' of 200 hard shell again from there to a 300lb snap.
Yes mono will get chafed quicker than cable. So change it...

My leaders are about 7' and can be #10- #15 single strand leader. My rig itself is sneaky (I'll share at the classes) (might have on here even ) and consists of 3407ssd hooks (cheap and strong+++) in 8/0-12/0 or bigger I will grab any 4x strength needle eye I can... (7731a)

Seriously...if you want to be good at this stuff you need to know what makes the mako tick. Why is he here when he could be sitting out there on the edge of the stream gobbling tunas, skippies, squid or even swords? Why do they have a preferred water temp? What are their hunting tactics? If you were one where would you be hanging out? That kind of stuff. Think like them and be them...

Have you thought about a seminar in NC? I would be interested. I'm betting there are more mako's around thank most people think- I don't know anyone that targets them.

If I did one it would have to be next year... I'm jammed on the schedule heading in. I have a charter here before heading up the next day. I get to my north camp, unload a bunch of stuff, turn around and set up the southern seminar. If we get a last minute surge of activity wanting in we could add another class the next day at Hinches if we have to.
Then the first half of the week I will be rigging a couple boats out on the north end. From there its back to south end for South Jersey Shark. Then four days free lance, another tourney, then this northern class then 4 days of freelance, then with Double D for the JCSA tourney, then mako mania... A few days of freee lance after that then a final tourney...
Head home for a couple weeks and back up to the Ocean Viking showdown, then Beach haven (or indian river) then some charters, then OCWMO, a couple more charters (I hope) and off to MA500...

Yes I will be a busy little Deep but after my slow season here I gotta make up for it any way I can...
