MY usual spread is the longer baits are deeper but still in that flow of chum. The closer baits are higher again staying in the slick.
On the moon makos can get moody so I will stagger a bait or two out of the slick it self . I also will do that on slow drift days where the chum is sinking down faster...
For makos I almost always run my baits above a thermocline... I like high in the water column. Top 30 feet but as I said I may sink one to say 50 or more feet on the moon or calm days...
I like to fish five baits. The long one is just that, long. About 100' from the ballon and another 200 from the boat. The next is 75+150, the next 50 + 100, the next 30+60 and finally a flat one maybe 30' from the boat.
