Shark Report 5/31/10
Hey guys, just wanted to give a report from yesterday. I was invited to fish on the TANGO out of cape may, with a great crew. We left the dock around 6 and pointed the bow toward Massey's but the weather report calling for 2-3's was only about 100% off with tall seas which slowed our run out down considerably. With the rough head sea going out, we meandered off course a bit and ended up setting up on one of the lumps near the teacup. We had semi-clean water that became cleaner throughout the drift, but never found water over 61 degrees. After setting up, 15 minutes in we had a shark in the slick, and from the teeth marks on the baits and antics of the mystery fish, we thought it was a mako but she never showed her face. We were bit off right behind the hook on 6 or 7 baits, and tried every which way to get a hook into the fish, but it just didn't happen. Later in the day we had nice 15lb class bluefish enter the slick, caught one on the shark rig and live lined it out, where it remained for the rest of the day. The livey had a few skiddish runs, and we thought we may have a shot at a shark, but no dice. We knew it was a little early, but we wanted to get out and practice for the upcoming tournaments. It is definitely starting to look fishy out there, and I'd say in another week they will be in a little thicker. Just wanted to give you guys a report. We marked a shark under the boat, had turtles, and the blues were spitting up tons of sand fleas, so get ready! We heard of a boat getting a 225 mako yesterday, but I did not hear any details. The sea calmed down progressively throughout the day, and the 33 contender ran home silky smooth in a big rolling following sea. Big thanks to Capt. Frank, Craig, and Cory for having me aboard. Until next time......
Kevin
