Left the dock at 600am, cleared LEI, heading to the vicinity of the Cigar. We knew the water would drop off temp wise before the wreck, then spike again south near the cigar. Sure enough,...63.0 at the wreck. Hit the northern tip of the Cigar and had 65. Definitely fishy water. Lines in about 8:30. Drift was perfect down he edge of the cigar.
Had a mystery run off on a whole mack deep. Thought it was a bluefish. Reeled it in, then got hammered again. Think it may have been a blue shark. 945 the shallow rod with ham and eggs went off. Threw the drag on and the circle on 530# mono did its job. Jammed right in the corner. This was no blue shark.
About 15-20 min. later a 12'+ Thresher goes airborne. Fought him around the boat for another hour of 50# tackle. Fish put a hurting on two anglers. Finally i grabbed the leader and my brother sunk the flyer.
By 11:00 we had a 75" (body length) estimated 250+ thresher on the deck. Cleaned up and heading for home.
