...had pushed fishing way back into the corner of my brain...now I`m jonesing like a crack addict...my boat is 3/4 done in a repower..but needs refit of almost everything..we got almost 3 inches of rain since midnite...now this...my wife is going to hate you guys cause I'm hunting the ck book.....
I have been a DeLorme fan for years and have several of their products. I currently use the hand held P20 GPS with topo 8.0 as backup unit when offshore and for traveling and hunting. I't has saved the day several times when electrical issues took out the boats unit or durring squals. The ability to down load charts is great. Scotty.
I just got back from delivering a boat to Stuart Florida that was equipped with the flir navigation camera and let me tell you this is the single most innovative piece of navigation equipment invented since the gps. This thing made the dark of night leaving at 3 a.m. look like broad daylight. This camera will make your early morning trips to the canyons a piece of cake. While running you see everything, small chunks of wood floating, bouys, conch pot floats, bridges, other boats, even the clouds. I was seriously impressed with this thing! Do yourself a favor and get one of these cameras for your boat. It is not a novelty. I would consider it a necessary piece of safety equipment for anyone who runs any lenght of time in the dark.

I started off using a Garmin178c on my Grady and decided to upgrade to the 540s and I've been pretty happy with the improved features of the 540s. It suits my needs perfectly and for the money, it's a great deal. After I bought the Blue chart chip for my area, it opened up detailed features that made using the unit alot better. Downside is that this option is another $300 on top of the price for the unit.
Pros: Great sounder refresh rate, easy to use, bright screen, price. Great customer service from Garmin company
Cons: Certain features can only be opened after investing money for extra chips. Does not have my tide station data like the 178c ( Port Royal, Roatan, Honduras), but this may be my ignorance. Fishing Charts are very close, but not 100% accurate for my area of the world.
This offshore mariner's chartplotter flush-mounts easily in your boat and sports preloaded BlueChart g2 maps for the coast of the U.S. and Bahamas. The GPSMAP 540 also features a 5" QVGA display and simple, straightforward buttons and menus. You can add the optional BlueChart g2 Vision SD card for even more enhanced features.
Navigate the High Seas
The 540 has preloaded detailed maps covering all U.S. coastal areas and the Bahamas. For other areas, the 540 has a worldwide basemap with satellite images in place of more traditional maps. The SD card slot makes it easy to add additional maps without connecting to a computer. And with just a few buttons and a simple, intuitive interface, the 540 makes navigating your way through the water easy.
Add Sonar and Weather
Where applicable, the sounder version, GPSMAP 540s , comes with a powerful dual frequency transducer that clearly paints depth contours, fish targets and structure whether you're fishing in freshwater or off the coast. It's also CANet™ compatible, so you can share sounder data with another chartplotter on your boat. For continuously-updated weather information , you can add the optional GXM 31 antenna to receive XM satellite weather, including NEXRAD radar, and hundreds of XM radio stations right on your chartplotter.
Add Extras with BlueChart® g2 Vision
With the optional BlueChart g2 Vision SD card, you can add a whole new dimension of exceptional features to your chartplotter.
3D mariner's eye view or fish eye view provides you with a 3-dimensional perspective of map information, both above the waterline and below it.
High-resolution satellite images and aerial photographs help you orient yourself in unfamiliar areas.
Auto guidance technology searches through all relevant charts to create a route you can actually follow - one that avoids obstacles, shallow water, buoys and other obstructions.

I have found this to be the best marine handheld that I have used. It features GPS and SOG/COG and DSC Calling, multi channel scan and a large display screan that is easy to see with a backlight as well. It is lightweight yet durable and rugged, and should it go in the drink, it floats!
It has a long battery life and can be on all day on the water and has a very good range.
Ergonimically, it it works. One thing I really like is the belt clip. It has an extended lip on it so it wont fall off whatever you may attach it to.
Great product for a ditch bag as well as every day use as a primary or backup marine radio.
From what I can ascertain from the store, It looks like it is going to be easy to use and should have plenty of products. I am looking forward to using it. Thanks.
I've had the Garmin GPSMAP76CSX for two years and it's been a great addition to my boating electronics. I use it as a backup to the main GPS on the boat and I also use it on fishing trips while on vacation using rental boats. The unit has great reception and I've not had any instances of bad reception while on a boat. I like the waterproof and floating features as well, but I usually tether the unit to a handrail or other fixed point on the dash to prevent loss or damage.
Using Garmin's Mapsource program, I can transfer maps, waypoints, points of interest, and tracks to and from my PC and the GARMIN76CSX. This lets me view where I've been, create favorite spots and mark them with useful Icons, plan future trips on the PC and then save it all back to the handheld unit.
If you're looking for a great handheld GPS unit that won't let you down, the GARMIN76CSX is the one for you!
This is a great website. It's great to see so much available in one place.
The GPSMAP 76CSx is a refreshing upgrade of the GPSMAP 76CS, one of our most popular models for outdoor and marine use. This unit features a removable microSD card for detailed mapping memory and a waterproof, rugged housing. The microSD card slot is located inside the waterproof battery compartment. Users can load map data and transfer routes and waypoints through the unit's fast USB connection.

The GPSMAP 76CSx also incorporates a barometric altimeter for extremely accurate elevation data and an electronic compass that displays an accurate heading while standing still.
Considered the mainstay among serious outdoor enthusiasts, the GPSMAP 76CSx and GPSMAP 76Cx offer a large color TFT display and turn-by-turn routing capability. These units also float when dropped in the water. Each unit comes with a blank 128 MB microSD card. Owners of these new x-series handhelds can also purchase new microSD cards that are pre-loaded with MapSourcer Topo and inland lake maps, BlueChart marine cartography, and City Navigator street maps.
