SeaTek fishing report 7/17 & 7/14
Yesterday, 7/17, Mark and I again met for breakfast before taking his new 33’ center console on it’s 2nd fishing trip. This time we left Shinnecock Inlet at 7am and headed to the Dip. Put lines in at 9am and not long after had 5 fish on. With Mark as the angler, all on 30 lbs. test, we landed 3 out of the 5 nice albacore from 30-40 pounds. That was it for tuna bites, except for a skipjack. A little while later we had lots of small dolphin come charging through the spread. We caught 2 while trolling, then later in the day found some floating debris and caught another 7 on spinning tackle before calling in another boat to catch the rest. In total, 3 for 5 on albacore, 9 dolphin and a skipjack. The other boats in the area didn’t do so well with tuna, but they did raise blue and white marlin.
While the canyon fishing is still a little slow, I am confident that it will improve greatly over this and next week.
On Sat. 7/14, I was convinced to fish a shark tourney here in shinnecock. Although there were no qualifying fish weighed in, we did catch 2 small makos and had a third small mako swimming around the boat. The largest was about 90 lbs. and gave the angler a great fight with 5 acrobatic leaps. We also caught a larger dusky and watched a large basking shark swim by the boat.
