Jake I sent you a PM, I am willing to help to try to get something going with this. IRBA has a season long tournament that is cheap and the awards are plaques and trophies, we could work together to build something that would work. The base of SFC members alone could be a great start, let brainstorm this hell if 200 boats put up $100.00 bucks nobody would feel it accept the winners

i like the idea, but would like to see individual species for x amount of money, say 50 or 75 bucks per. i could see a large amount of boats in it for that, with a pretty nice pay out. it would also be nice to have the end of the year awards party be paid for by the winners, with in reason of course. and due to the time of the year the party would be, there should be a lot of members there? just my 2 cents anyway

no I wasn't joking....some (not me) people might find it offensive and given the fact that the tourny has NOT done well over the last few years, maybe a name change would help the cause.....

This would be a great tournament. I would suggest whoever does pick it that they take an idea from the MA500. The "on the board" calcutta is one of the best calcuttas available. It will encourage people to enter early and disperse more awards to more individuals. Especially if you enter into the tuna category and find a pig big eye in June. I would also seperate the tuna catergories into types of tuna.

This would be a great thing for someone like Provisions, Akes or Alltackle to take over.

The tournament is not really called Kill Something Big Tournament (KSB). They were called the Ocean City Offshore and Inshore Challenge. The whole KSB thing was more of a marketing deal and/or apparel side business. The original thought was, unlike most tournaments that have a bunch of IGFA rules about how fish are caught (line strength, leader length, # of anglers fighting a fish), we don't care...Just Kill Something Big! As a mate on a charter boat I thought it made sense for a season long deal. Unfortunately the average charter doesn't have one angler in the bunch that can land a 200+ lb fish on their own. To ask charter boats to enter a season long tourney with IGFA style rules just wouldn't make sense. KSB means, if you get it to the boat, kill it and bring it home, you deserve the credit. A big fish is a big fish.

Anyway, it's interesting to read the responses. The weigh stations we had involved all had certified scales. No requirement to go out of your way to weigh in at one specific station. I'm not prepared to throw any more money at this but will gladly help out if anyone wants to keep it going. Cowboy, get in touch with me via direct email, director@occhallenge.com, we should talk.
