Sea Monster

Looking for Rock yesterday up the beach from O inlet. Some have been caught off the shoals where I don't go. To shallow there for my rig. So we trolled around searching, When one of my friends asked what that was about a half mile off. It looked to be a black plastic bag, but the closer I got, I could see it had a tail connected to it. I heard later that some others had seen some whale sharks around. Sure enough one popped up behind the boat and we snagged it, unintentionally of course.It wasn't to happy and I wasn't either after loosing about $30 worth of tackle.

I saw the same beast coming in form offshore yesterday... Bout 3 miles SE of the sea bouy. I took a double take as I almost ran the thing over. It didn't spook and I literally came within 6 feet of it...Watched its dorsal go across my white wash.....Crazy!!!

I'm no expert, so just asking... I thought Whale sharks were warm water fish.

Any chance that was a basking shark? Lot of similarity but they are a good bit smaller and I think they like cooler water?

I think your exactly right... I was told that whale sharks had been sited and assumed thats what they were. After looking at some other pics, I'm sure they were basking sharks.
