Kelsey, Dad and I went for our 4th annual fathers day trip on Saturday. We enjoyed beautiful seas. We found a couple gaffers in 20 fathoms, where I had been seeing them. There were some birds and flipper dolphins mixed in. At one point, I had them coming out of the water and grabbing my teasers, that I had pulled up, like pit bulls. Unfortunately that bite was short lived.
I did have a white or sail (not sure which?) take my short rigger at that spot. I saw it and pulled it from the pin and reeled down on it like crazy, because it had taken the bait and was swimming into and across the spread and not out and away. But after about a 3 second pull the rod stood back up. I knew he had felt hook and was gone.
We decided to push off to where Buddy on the Offshore3 was about 15 miles offshore of us, but we never got there. I ran across a pallet with about 500 bailers under it.
We took a bunch and left them biting, because we had plenty and I knew I had to clean everything in box myself. If they slowed up, I just dropped a jig over and jerked on it 3 or 4 times and they would fire right back up again. I did catch two on the jig, but I think the hook was a little small and they both pulled off.
We ended the day with 18 dolphin.
