Sea Cure 9/19-20 Report 18 Tuna, 3 Mahi, 1 Wahoo
The rough ride out was worth it. We arrived at the tip of the Wilmington around 4:30 pm and started trolling some nice weed lines. We picked up 3 mahi and 1 yellowfin around 95-100#. Shortly after found a 40# wahoo, and we knew this would be home for the night. Nice temp., structure, and fish already.
After setting the hook in about 450 to 500 feet at the very tip of the Wilmington it wasn't long before we were catching yellowfin tuna. 40'-60' was the depth range, some deeper. We used dead squid, sardines and jigs untill we could start catching live squid. We caught solid untill around 2 AM when a couple of large tiger sharks showd up. All fish were in the 70-100# class. We boated two more around 4 AM before we went back on the troll around 8:00 and picked two Longfin around the 40 line. The water temp. all night stayed right around 77 degrees, and we were not marking bait untill around midnight. Then we were marking bait and fish for the rest of the night.
Thank you to Scott, Ken, Mike, Tom, Klye and Rob you guys will always be welcome, and were a pleasure to fish with. Yea Rob you too--even though you lost like 8 fish and had me pretty pissed!!
Congrats to Mike and Klye on their 1st tuna. Everyone did an awesome job of angling these big fish!!! Can't wait for your next trip.
We are going out 9/21-22 and 9/22-23 feel free to call us on Ch. 68.
