Headed out of OC on Saturday with wife Danielle, Franky, Jen and Patrick (newbie on the Blackjack) for some mako hunting. Was planning on fishing the southern sausages but due to the flotilla on the horizon when approaching, we set up just outside the Fingers miles from the closest boat. With a well layed plan and only the freshest chumthe crew managed to catch 3 brown sharks and a blue shark before making the captain crank on the 5th bite. Luck me, up came a nice mako that the crew gracefully put to bed (by a skillfull wire and gaff job by Franky, erratic shooting by Patrick and a final lassoo by Danielle). The fish was a 75 inch male that weighed 151lbs. Fast trolled toward home for a while and picked up around 1:00 to get in and cleaned up. Had an awesome dinner at the Marlin Club with some great friends to end the day! Most of the bites were on the long bait and came mixed on bluefish and mackeral. I was able to feed the mako a bluefish fillet before he ate the mackeral bait (you know just to fatten him up a bit
). Pictures to follow.
