San Diego - Charter Recomendations

Hey Guys,

I am heading to Pacific Beach, right outside of San Diego to visit some friends... im heading out there with one of my regular fishing buddies and we're definitely interested is getting out on the water for at least one of the days.

I am looking for any suggestions/recommendation for charters, as well as general information on what species are prevalent that time of year, etc.

Thanks,
Justin

check out Rich at www.tailwalkersportfishing.com He runs a nice Parker that will accommodate up to 4 guys.

otherwise, check out the El Gato Dos. I think that's a 40' express that will fish up to 6 guys. The capt just posted a report a few threads from this one!

Both are based out of Seaforth Landing near SeaWorld.

As far as bite goes, there were a few guys that got into some tuna last week. Reports say the water looks good, but simply not enough boats out there looking.

Check out fishcount.com this will give you the reports for all the head boats in SD. I Fished on the First String 1 1/2 day trip a few weeks ago, we did ok a few tuna and some yellowtail. Fished on the Premier for a 1/2 day trip and did pretty well.

Great suggestions on charter boats!

When are you coming across? The halibut fishing has been good just outside the harbor. We got these last week.

Shoot me a pm when you get here or just before you leave and I'll give you the latest skinny for the flat ones, if you're interested.

Rick

Justin,

If you haven't made plans yet, Google up Tailwalker charters and talk to Rich. He is hardcore, tuned in on what's happening and is a true big game small charterboat. I doubt that you would be all that happy with what amounts to a partyboat trip with rental gear or bottom bouncing. Up to you, of course, but if you want to use the kind of gear you're used to and fish the blue water on a fast, very good boat, and have a shot at tuna if they're around, be sure to touch base with Rich.

(Please don't let the similarity in site names you see on this thread confuse you. Our logo is over fifteen years old and we have been serving big game fishermen for all of that time. 'Nuff said on that.)

Justin,

Was just trying to help you out with some fresh off the water dope if you want to target halibut while visiting.

Off topic but since I'm getting spammed and slammed yet again, google Best of Big Game & Best in Big Game. You might be surprised at the results (or lack thereof).

However you choose to spend the day on the water with your friend, have a great time here on the left side!

Rick

They are probably your best shot at a trophy fish that time of year. We caught the fish in my pictures just outside of Pt Loma so you can do it easily in a small boat if you have access to one. I attached a few more pics from last Dec 28 just to get the juices flowing

It's fishing so no guarantee's (the chew has been off the last week or so), but I can at least hook you up with fresh off the water dope so you can weigh your options. Just stay in touch (PM is fine or use my website email address www.bestofbiggame.com) and I'll gladly help out however possible!

Tight Lines!

Rick
