Since this is getting brought up here, S2N crew, did the fish display bright colors and vertical bars in the water??
Of the ones I have caught, they all were lit up similar to the pic in the Box's forum, while they were in the water (the shortbills in Kona, and the longbills in Venezuela). I have a picture holding one up in the boat in Kona that the coloration looks very similar to the one in your pic, whereas minutes before in the water, it was lit up like the one in the Box's forum. Since the question of colors and bars came up over there, what do you recall guys?

He was the most lit up fish I ever saw when he came to the boat.
Thats what I figured.

Pretty fish
Hey franky, those I've caught have been all lit up like the one in the water in the other section also. Neon purple-ish with well defined bars. Just like other billfish they seem to lose their bright colors quickly when tired or brought onboard. I have a series of pictures of one we caught a few years ago off O.C. and from the water to holding it up the colors went out like a switch. pretty fish.
Be up there Sun. or Mon. again on my way north.
