For these 3 days we had 3 surgeons with us from Virginia. Joe, Lee and Jeff we all also Fly fishermen. Joe wanted to try to catch a Tuna on the fly. Sunday was the only day that was possible for him to try it.
SUNDAY
It was a beautiful day on the ocean. Flat seas, calm winds and the fishing was pretty good. Joe trolled his fly most of the day Sunday, either right behind the flat lines or in between them. We would get bites on the teasers and flat lines but the tuna's would not touch the fly. Captain Brian gave him another one to try later on, but that ended in the same result. LOL Needless to say, Joe did not get to catch his tuna on the fly, but they had 9 coolers of meat to take home.![]()
Captain Brian put us on the fish on Sunday as he always does. He had his work cut out for him due to all the boats out there. Seems every time we knocked out of gear the boats would start to close in on us. We had 2 CC boats in perticular that followed us around all day and were constantly in Captain Brian's way. However, being the man that he is, it did not phase him. We ended the day with 5 on at once and those 5 all died and got a free boat ride home.![]()
We caught 17 Tunas, 2 Dolphin, 1 Wahoo and 1 King. We had 12 Yellows and 5 Blacks.
Needless to say, the box was FULL!!![]()
That's how we like it on The RUN-OFF
SATURDAY
Seas were kind of rough out there still. Mostly 6-8' throughout the day and winds about 25 knots. It was too rough and windy for them to try Fly fishing all day. Fishing was kinda slow with us getting a bite every hour or so. Captain Brian was marking the Tuna's but they just were not biting. We ended up catching 5 Yellowfins and 5 Dolphin.
FRIDAY
WOW, nothing else can describe Friday other then messy. 25-30 knot winds and 10-12 foot seas with 15 footers seen frequently. Needless to say there would be no fly fishing on Friday. The 42' Wesmac ate it up all day long. It was just unbelievable how nasty it was and how well that boat handled it. It was plenty fishable all day long. It was just Joe and Lee on Friday. Fishing was kinda slow throughout the day. However, like I always say....when your fishing with THE BEAST its just a matter of time before fish start to die.We ended up catching 4 Yellowfin, 1 Blackfin, 5 Dolphin (1 Bull @ 25lbs) and a Wahoo.
We got to hang out with Bill Pino (SQUIDNATION), Captain John Eppehimer(ADMIN) and Mike (FINRAZOR) when we got the boat cleaned up. They stopped by to say hello and we told some lies and had a few laughs. LOLIt was great seeing you guys again.
Joe, Lee and Jeff were some great fellas to fish with. By day 3 they were in the swing of things and really getting involved. It was a pleasure to get to know they and fun fishing with them.
I am sure Walmart was glae they came too since they bought 5 coolers during their stay here.![]()
They had 6 coolers in the jeep and 3 coolers in the truck. Now that is how we do it on The RUN-OFF!!!!
I would just like to say Thank You to Captain Brian Harrington for giving me the opportunity to work for him. It has been an honor and a priviledge to work with him. I can't even begin to put into words how much I have learned from him since I met him. Its an awesome feeling knowing that when you go out fishing with him you know your going to catch fish. It might not be first thing in the morning, it might not be at lunch time but, its going to happen you can take that to the bank.
Thanks so much for everything Captain B.
