Thanks for the kind words there Frank and for backing me up. Oh shit dont back up you will sink the boat . Dont let this Googan Hubris get you worked up. I posted that pic because I thought it was a cool picture and would try to get a little blood pumpin here in Feb. No you dont chase every fish like that if hardly at all but when its time to Let-er-eat dont be scared but also dont be stupid. The story on that pic was we were in Hatteras having a good meat fish day when a 450ish Blue piled on a 50 and we got close to the leader several times but just could not get the leader in hand. This guy really wanted to get the release because he had fished for several years and never caught one. The fish popped up and we shot back got the leader and broke him off. Hubris you should not talk shit and try to call Franky out on his thousands of fish, he keeps a great log every day and can tell you about every fish from where the fish bit, color or naked and any other important info for that day. I see you greatest catch is your girl friend, so I see where you get your insight from. One of my greatest catches you see is a triple grand slam and we were a sail short for a quad with a few more whites thrown in (Franky was also there in Venezuela on that trip) so see if you can do the math on that Ding Dong .

Whatever gets me from point A where the boat is to point B where the fish is whether it is reverse forward or in a spin. If a fish comes up 30 yds off your stern you better get on him fairly quick or be prepaired to spend some quality time riding after him.

thank's glenn, that makes it clear for me. dont forget to throw in the scaled ballyhoo.......and when the fish is real close to the boat, really backdown hard so it can come pointy end first right into the cockpit. only some really fast thinking by the captain, and first class boat handling by an experienced crew averted catastrophe! i too can write drama novel's. by the way last week i was in new york, i walked past j p morgan's house and st. patrick's cathedral. it doesnt make me a business man....and i aint no saint. but i was careful not to step in shi........, cause i know it when i see's it!

Not sure what shit your talking about hubris cause there sure was alot of it in this thread. But not Franky's or Spencers crendentials. He is one of those that grew up on a boat and has been catching billfsh since boyhood. And Spencer is a hell of a captain with some nice $$$$$$$$ wins. Shoot, he was the helm on on 2nd place wahoo I caught in the WMO. Yelled at me to boot! I have feelings too Robbie

Lets bring this question back to the point because I know the root of the question. What if the boat doesn't exactly turn on a dime, lets say nickle maybe a roll of half dollars, you get what I mean, she don't turn well. Now what do you do? Maintain in/out of gear and try to get the boat to turn knowing that the pod is gettin further and further behind you or give it a minute or so to try and raise another and then pull and back down to the single or double?

I would be backing down.

Whats the matter Alex, you baited me up, waited til I came back in the spread, and when your childish internet instigation backfired you don't want to play anymore? And the only shit you stepped in would be in NY, cause I know it was in nothing I posted. And for the record, I was not a ride along guest on the rigs I mentioned, I was employed, so that makes me a crew member (well, 99 on the Ravenous I wasn't getting paid, but I did my share of the work to earn my room and board) I am not one of these fellows that pads my resume with the charter trips I went on while on vacation.

Stick to instigating with the keyboard crowd my friend it suits you.

Jonny D... Never had any water in that Billfisher cockpit have you?

Bill, thanks for the reinforcement of my credentials. I don't know why I find it necessary to play Alex's games, but when I start telling him how to be a contractor and talk shit about whatever it is he does for a living, when it is only a weekend hobby of mine I will expect the same in turn.

bill,

i'm just trying to learn. seems to me as long as that 50 lb white is heading the other direction, i need to go like hell in reverse, filling the cockpit with water, allowing the white to continue in the other direction since he can probably swim faster than my boat can go in reverse. then when i finally bring the boat to a fish that is still green, and 15 feet off the transom i really go hard in reverse, by now i finally got his head turned and risk him alive and well coming right in the boat????? because i have noticed that the pointy end of the boat work's pretty good. once i turn a marlin's head, his body follow's. and he planes to the surface pretty well, if i keep the pressure on. by the way....he's pretty tired by now and i can safely release him. one more question bill, ive seen a lot of guy's go into reverse so hard and fast both engines cough black smoke like their on fire.........is that part of it too? now maybe the way i make my point is a little hard for you to understand, and maybe you dont want to. that's ok, pictures of water pouring into the cockpit look cool......but its like anything in life.....its for show. but im out voted here, and thats the way it work's. so from now on, full throttle reverse!

you win frank.......the vote is in. thank you to everyone that reinforced his credentials. and by the way frank.......you dont know anything about me. but the minute you start living better than me, let me know......i'll follow you! until then, stop taking yourself so serious. peace. and another thing....to many of you guys take what i say the wrong way......i'm not calling anyone any names here. if that's what you want to do to me, go ahead. i laugh at it. but really, how much of a conversation would this be if we all thought the same way. i type like i talk, thats all. if we were in the same room you wouldnt think anything of it. im not trying to play my credentials against anyones. but most of the statements that get mentioned dont come from me. first of all i am not an interenet whatever. i say the same thing in person. fishing is a hobby, not my life. and im glad its not! when i hook up, i like to slowly move forward and plane the fish up, moving back only if i have to but my main goal is forward. its an opinion, not an election. and sometimes for fun.......i'll take a position i dont really believe in, just for fun! peace out.
