RUN-OFF Swansboro Tournament Report
Hey guys, it was a beautiful 2 days on the water.
Both days were flat as could be.
We had our Dave Sikorski, Geoff (HOLWACHAGOT), Myron (WILD1) and my son Lil O-SEA-D.
Talk about a crew...Dave, Geoff and Myron were on their stuff now. They all helped out all day both days. It was like a well oiled machine.
Saturday
Captain Brian pulled her back about 8:30am and started searching for his spot. A few minutes after we stop there is a Mahi swimming around the back of the boat waiting for a hand out. LOL
Me moved on and he went away after a couple minutes.
The day was pretty slow for us. We had many encounters with Mahi's charging into the spread. Everyone would get on a rod and crank the baits away as fast as we could. LOL
Kinda weird trying not to catch a Mahi when they are coming after your stuff. But, when you add up the price of each Horse ballyhoo and the time invested in every Mackeral you rig....you don't want it messed up.
We ended up catching 5 Gaffers throughout the day anyways. Ones that just were to fast and too determined to eat something.
About 11:00 we heard about some Saildogs being seen around where we were. So, we put out a dink on a TLD25 just behind the flat lines.
Around 1:30 a Blue Marlin about 500lbs popped up fast right behind the dink and just pilled on it. I mean he just came up out of no where and inhaled it. He turned to the left and took off in a hurry making a huge splash and a hole in the water like no other.
He peeled off about 400 yards of line in just a few seconds. Everyone else has the stuff cleared and in the boat. Dave jumped in the chair and just as I was handing him the rod the main line broke. Captain Brian saw the fish jumping about 300 yards off to the right. The line coming off the rod was still on the left side of the boat where he headed when he hit the bait. The bow in the line was just too much preasure for the 30lb test main line.
Leason learned....get the dink out of the water when a Blue won paddles in. Honestly though, there was no warning. The fish did not paddle in on a teaser or anything else. He came up from no where, ate and ran and that was the end of it. It all lasted just a couple minutes.
The TLD no has a bad bearing and the drag is shot.
Dave made Geoff and Miron some Blackened Mahi sandwiches that night. I heard they were absolutely awesome.
Pretty work Dave.
Sunday
Same conditions, no wind and flat seas. We caught a few Gaffers by accident. We never did see any Bill fish though. Sundays fishing was slower then Saturday's for everyone in the tournament though.
One thing I won't forget is.....
Dave and my son making paper air planes on the way home and flying them around the Salon. LMAO
Dave did have this one cool one that looked like a circle that did fly pretty good though. LOL
To sum it all up....I think everyone had a great time. I know I really enjoyed hanging out with everyone. I got to make 2 new friends this weekend too. Thanks Dave and Myron.
After all, that's what its all about. Having fun doing what we love and getting to know people and making new friends.
I just wanted to say Thanks to Dave, Geoff and Myron for fishing with us this weekend. Captain Brian and myself greatly appreciate it. You guys rock!!!
The first picture is Captain Brian walking on the boat Saturday morning with the 2 Flying Gaffs ready to kill something.
The second picture is my son taking a nap up on the bridge with Captain Brian.

Sorry about the Blue one Brian and John. I bet she is down there licking her butt like a dog fresh out of a fight.
Your right about the nice conditions on the water this weekend. Good to see ya'll again on the way in Sunday. You should tack that TLD to the space over the salon door as a nice momento for the weekends tournament.
Enjoyed the report as always.

me llamo SUPER Dave
Damn dink rod!
Chalk up another great weekend on the Run-off. Brian put us on the tournament winning fish and she grabbed the wrong bait. Such is life.
Can't ask for a more beautiful two days on the water, saw tons of life, a big slob blue one, plenty of AGGRESSIVE gaffers, some porpoise, and a Destroyer and Missle Cruiser.
The Navy radio transmissions on the tourney channel were hilarious too.
Not to mention the place Myron got for us to stay at was anything but shabby.....on the a beautiful creek w/ a 54' hatteras at the end of the pier.
Yes, my sandwiches were fantastic...Autographs next time.
Boat cleaning crew was TOP NOTCH!!
I finally made it to BT's too.....nothing crazy to report, but can see the potential.
Thanks to all for yet another fantastic adventure to the Crystal Coast.
The traffic in VA brought me back to reality much sooner than I had hoped.
see you all in July.
