    RUN-OFF Offshore Report May 21 & 22

Wednesday we fished with Charlie and Will who are our Ducks Unlimited tournament party. The brought along a few friends who had never been out before offshore. The boys wanted some meat and then a shot at a billfish.

So we headed out on a nice calm morning and started looking for Mahi's. We picked at the Mahi's slowly throughout the day. The morning bite for us was kind of slow.
We went on off there looking for him around 9:30. Everything looked good but we just did not see him.
Around 11:00 we had a Blue one crash bite the right short. He never did stop taking line the entire time we were clearing the stuff. The guys cleared all the line and I stayed on the rod cranking the whole time line was peeling off the reel. We got down to just under half a spool when I put the rod in the chair and instantly the hook pulled.
We stayed out there looking for a while longer and did not see any more action.
So, we moved back inshore to pick up a few more Mahi.

At 2:15 the right long came down and we were tight to a Sailfish. A couple seconds later the left long came down but did not come tight. I fed him for a few and we hooked Saildog #2. Captain Brian says "Double header Sailfish, get the shit up boys" I love it when he says that.
A few minutes later we released the first one that might have weighed 25 lbs. The second one came about 2 minutes later. We pulled him in the boat for a quick picture and then we sent him home. He was bout 40 lbs.
Each angler got to catch their first Sailfish which was pretty cool.

We ended up with 9 Mahi, 1 AJ and 2 Sailfish releases.

Thursday we had a first time client. Stan who was in the Navy, his wife Louisa, their daughter Katie and her boyfriend Dave. They were visiting from Block Island.
The seas were flat all day long and hardly any wind at all. One of the most beautiful days on the water that I have seen. It was a perfect day for this family to go fishing.

We started fishing for the Mahi's first thing about 7:30.

Around 10:00 we moved out to the deep to look for the man in the blue suit. Unfortunately we never did get a shot at one. Around noon we moved back inshore to catch a few Mahi. We managed a couple Wahoo's on the planer rod and 1 on the Bridge pole at the end of the day.
We picked off a few Mahi at the end of the day as well and that brought us to the end of another gorgeous day on the water.

We ended up with 10 Mahi, 1 Stinky and 3 Wahoo's
