Today we had Clint, Paul, Chris, Whitey and Chad fishing with us. Paul had been out once before out of Oregon Inlet. The rest of the guys had never been offshore before.
The plan was Wahoo's. They ate us alive during the DU tournament this weekend. So, we figured we could get some pay back on today's charter.
Lite winds and calm seas today. Captain Brian did have to dodge a couple nasty thunder storms though.
The day did not start out like I expected.....the first fish was an AJ on the DFA. >We pulled wire on everything today because of all the Wahoo that have been around.
Second bite of the day was on the right short. A Sailfish knocked the bait out of the clip but would not come back and eat.
Third bite was on the right long. Yup another Sailfish that would not eat.
After that we picked up a couple wahoo's on the DFA.
A few minutes later the planer trips and hes on there. A couple seconds of cranking and there is a big splash a couple hundred feet back......you got to be kidding me LOL, Sailfish number 1 on the planer.![]()
After we got away from all the grass and the Navy ships out there pinging away with their sonar, we picked up another Wahoo on the Bridge pole.
Around 11:30 we had a Sailfish commit suicide on the left short. A few minutes later we released number 2.
About 12:30 Captain Brian had one try him on the bridge pole. He missed him at first but worked it for about 45 seconds doing that Captain Stuff. Next thing you know he has a Sailfish hooked up. After we clear everything we black smoked it back on him and released Sailfish number 3.
Around 1:15 Captain Brian yells "there he is right long, that's him John" Just then the clip pops and I fed him. Pushed it the drag up and started cranking and cranking and finally it came tight and off to the races he went. I think he was coming for another bait and did not even realized he was hooked unitl I caught up with him. A couple minutes later we released number 4.
Abiout 2:15 Captain Brian had one try him on the dink he has up top with him. He worked his magic and hooked up with number 5. After we got everything cleared he went back on him. A few minutes later we released number 5.
What a day it was for us. The guys had an awesome time and so did Captain Brian and myself.
First time out for these guys and they release 5 Sailfish. AWESOME A memorable day that I will never forget.
We ended up with 6 Wahoo's and 5 Sailfish releases.
Here is a picture of our laundry flying![]()
