Today we had Steve, AJ (his son) and his friend Ethan from High Point, NC.
AJ is 13 and Ethan is 15.
Neither AJ or Ethan have been offshore fishing before. So today was a real treat for Captain Brian and myself. To be able to make life time memories for this kids and a Father.
Seas were snotty and the wind was blowing. The RUN-OFF just soaked it up like it always does.
Captain Brian found his spot and we set lines out at 7:15. We picked up 2 Mahi within the first 5 minutes. Set the stuff back out and a few minutes later the Left long pops out. Nothing there. I give it a few cranks and wait in freespool..................I feel the change in presure and so I fed him. A few seconds later, drag up and crank like crazy and we come tight on a Sailfish. All the sudden the Right long pops out. I still have the left in my hand and I crank on the right one and put it in free spool and wait a few secons, but nothing happens. I gave the Sailfish to AJ who is in the chair ready to go.
All the sudden the right short pops out. I fed him and we came tight on a second Sailfish. I get the rod over to Ethan in the chair on the port side. I explained to them what they needed to do. They both followed my directions perfectly. Myself and Steve got the other lines up and in the boat.
Captain Brian goes to backing her down. Both boys are cranking their hearts out. Doing an awesome job. A few minutes later we got the leader on the first Sailfish. I pulled him in the boat so Steve can take a picture of his son with his first Sailfish. Back in the drink he goes.
Then we got right on Ethans fish hard. 2 minutes later we realeased a second Sailfish.![]()
Keep in mind here, neither of these boys have ever been offshore fishing. So, not only is it rought, but they followed my directions better then 80% of the adults do.![]()
I have never fished with a better pair of kids. They both did an awesome job.
After that we got the stuff back out and got back to fishing. We picked up the Mahi's here and there throughout the day.
Both Steve and the kids reeled in more fish then they were ready for. LOL
We ended up with our limit of Mahi's 50, and 2 Sailfish releases.
What a day on the water.
Captain Brian put us on the fish, just like he always does.
Funny thing here, this morning we were talkig just before we pulled it back to set out. He told me he was going to a place that is usually good for a Sailfish if we get their first. Well, sure enough...his place was good for 2 of them. Freaking amazing THE BEAST is.
It was an amazing day on The RUN-OFF today. Lots of smiles, lots of fish and lots of fun.
Steve told me on the way in that he has never seen his son so excited. I am just so glad that I was a part of it.
I will post pictures tomorrow.
I still have not taken a shower from today and I still have some more rigging to do for tomorrow.
Thanks Captain Brian for everything.
