RUN-OFF Offshore Report 5/28/07

Another beautiful day on the water. No wind and flat calm seas.

Today we had a family day on the RUN-OFF. Captain Bill Van Sciver (OWNER), his wife Katherine, their son Will who tured 7 on Saturday, and their 2 good friends Neels and Hank as well as my son John.

We had 2 purposes today.
First to catch 6 Mahi's.

Second, to net big clumps of Sargassum weed and collect the little critters inside for Bill and Katherines Saltwater aquarium at home.

Our first bite of the morning was on the right short. It got cut off by a wahoo on his initial strike.

After that we picked away at the Mahi's here and there. About 9:30 we moved out to the deep to look for a billfish. Hung around there for an hour or so and moved back in for some more Mahi and Sargassum netting. LOL

Let me tell you all something....
Katherine is awesome in the pit. She leadered a couple fish yesterday and did an awesome job at it.

She has the old rigs off and ready for me to put the new one on without being asked.

She coils up the leaders the correct way.

She shags the grass.

She pulls the rigger clips down after a rigger bite

She knows how to properly put the line in the rigger clip and runs it back up the rigger too.

Needless to say, she is a very big help in the pit.

Everyone helped out yesterday. Everyone got to reel some fish in too.

We all had a great time. Laid back day, catching fish both on the rod and in the dip net.

They neted, Puffers, Needle fish, File fish, Frog fish, Crabs, Jack's and Shrimp. It was amazing how much stuff hangs inside that weed floating on the water. It was pretty cool.

John and Will even shot Captain Brian on the bridge with Marshmelow guns. Now that was halarious. They came running out of the salon...took a place on each side of the fighting chair and just unloaded on him. The bridge was full of mini marshmelows.

We ended up with 17 Mahi's in the box, 1 Needlefish, 2 Frog fish, 1 Jack, 2 Crab's, 1 Shrimp, 4 File fish and 2 Puffers in the live well

Sounds like a good day, I bet those kids had a lot of fun with those dolphin, and the marshmelow guns. Seems like the box on the Run-Off stays full of fish, thanks for the report and pics!
