Saturday
We showed up at the dock with the wind blowing 15-20 inshore and 25-30 offshore. We had Mr. Whitakers group from Virginia with us again this year. They decided that they wanted to do some type of fishing since they were here. So, we rigged up for the Spaniards and Blues and headed out to the inlet. Just about every charter boat in the fleet was out there with the same thing in mind. It was like a Walmart parking lot in the inlet. The BEAST made a few circles and then headed out and pushed on down the beach to a couple spots.
Along the way we caught a Spanish Mack and a Bonita. Throughout the day we picked at the Bonitas and the King's. We also picked up a chopper Bluefish that weighed about 5 lbs. We got setup with Mullet and Albacore strip rigs and started catching some King's. Later on we switched back over to spoons and started catcing Bonitas again.
Around noon the deep planer trips and the drag starts screaming. We knew right away that it was not a King. A couple minutes later we put a 28" Grouper in the box.I was completly surprised to say the least. It was pretty darn cool.
After that we picked off a few more Bonitas and King's before heading back to the dock.
We were back at the dock at 2:30 with a couple 5 gallon buckets of fish for the guys to take home.
We ended up with 8 Bonitas, 6 King's, 1 Spanish, 1 Blue and 1Grouper.
Sunday
We had the Hillsboro Sailtwater fishing club with us and they had 8 other boats booked as well for the day. Our friend Boyce who fished with us 2 weeks ago was part of the group too.
Unfortunately the wind was blowing every bit of 20 knots inshore and was blowing 15-20 offshore going to 25-35 in the afternoon. So, the general idea was to fish a 3/4 day inshore. So, we headed out about 5:45 to the inlet and put out the spoons with the other boats. Our neighbor had an offshore charter and headed on off there about 5:30. He called Captain Brian around 7:30 and told him that it had not got any worse as he headed out. So, we picked up the inshore stuff and headed out to the blue water.
We started fishing around 9:30 or so looking for the elusive Mahi's.As always Captain Brian took us right to the fish. We picked away at the Mahi's throughout the morning. The fishing was pretty steady throughout the day. The Captain got us plenty of bites.
We also picked up a couple Wahoo's throughout the day.
By the end of it was blowing a good 25 knots and the waves were stacked on top of each other. It made for a very special ride home. But, the Wesmac just ate it up all the way home.
Pretty work on finding the fish and getting us all the bites Captain Brian.
We ended up with 25 Mahis and 2 Wahoos
