    Roosterfish and Dorado

This is a late fishing report of activities last week in Puerto Vallarta. Just north of town is Punta de Mita where we fished with Capt. Chuy on the Jenifer II Monday the 22nd and Wednesday the 24th. Both were 1/2 days and the main target were Roosterfish.
Day 1. Make bait bait for what seemed like forever. Get to fishing grounds just north of the Four Seasons (Sayulatia sp ?). Start slow trolling in front of the beach. Steady pick on Rooster's. Caught six total. Largest was about 40 #'s. See picture.
Incredibly were also caught two gaffer Dorado's not 40 yards in front the beach.
Get back to the boat basin at Punta de Mita at 2:30 and it's Margaritas at Margaritas.
    Great Day.
Day 2. Bait was scarce. We meet the Marla and another boat near the Mariettas(sp)islands and got bait. Made some more bait in front of Four Seasons. There was a report about a trash line holding Dorado a couple miles out. Slow trolled live bait for about an hour and could of sunk the boat with fish. Stopped at four with largest pictured below.
Went back to the Roosterfish grounds and started slow trolling. We were able to release a another 4 or 5 small fish.
While Chuy was at the bow casting a popping plug one of the live bait rods go off. I get to the rod turn the clicker off and let it eat. After what I thought was more than enough drop back I set up on the fish, pulls drag for about 20 seconds then gone. This must of been a large fish because it had hit a very large bait. We retrieved the bait and saw where the Rooster had had it in its mouth but had not eaten the bait. Oh well.
Still somewhat early we asked Chuy to head in as we had accomplished our goals.
Back to Margaritas for an afternoon cocktail.
We went back to Margaritas Thursday evening and brought some of the Dorado for Hector to prepare for us. We proceeded to have an incredible dinner with a great sunset.
While in Punta de Mita I would highly recommend seeing Hector at Margaritas.
As for the fishing Capt. Chuy was fantastic. www.monsteryellowfin.com Not only was he very knowledgeable about the fishing his equipment was top notch (including the boat) and in great condition. He had the right tackle for the fishing that we were doing.
All in all a great trip.

Looks like a great trip Doug.

Missed you on the Albemarle the other day. 30 kts NE with rain and 50 degrees, and there you are sipping Margaritas and catching roosters. Lucky I was in a good mood

    Bill,
Good to hear about the striper's. Looking forward the getting out there.

    Franky,
I am sorry I wasn't there. I heard about the conditions. John has declined the boat because of an "unacceptable sea trial". Too wet ????
Thank you for help. We will get the next one.
Did I miss an epic post about a giant Black Marlin in Australia ?? How was your trip ?
