I'll be there if the weather stays nice. Also is there any possible way to change the minumum weights around for the white and blue marlin categories? If there are only a small amount of boats fishing this, a 70lb white and a 550lb blue are not that likely. I think during last years open only 2 blue marlin were over 550lbs and I'd guess about 6-7 whites were over 70lbs. It just seems unlikely if 30-40 boats go out there a qualifying fish will not be caught, thus it would be smarter to go tuna fishing. I'm not saying it cant happen, but if your playing the odds it might not happen. If the minumum wieghts were lowered to 65lbs for whites and 450lbs for a blue I think it would be better but, who knows you guys might have strict regulations to follow.
I agree, considering there is 400+ boats in the WMO and only 7 or so whites were caught over 70 last year, and only 2 blues over 550, it would be a VERY good idea to lower the max weight for this tournment to 65 and 450 pounds so that its likely for atleast one boat to place for each. I mean, in the past when there were over 350 boats, there have been many occisions that no fish above 70 were weighed. I know this tournement will not be anywhere close to that many boats, and statictically the weight requirement needs to be changed. Is there anyway this is possible? This will make your tournement better, make people actully place, get more people to enter, and keep it a marlin tournement and not turn it into a tuna tournement because no placing fish are caught...

Guys here is the scoop as we are presenting it, we would have loved to run this a lot of different ways and make it bigger and better and we do appreciate the feedback. As a brand new tournament we didn't want a pile of dead marlin at the docks taking away quotas from the more established tournament trail. No matter how many boats fish a tournament it only will take 1 dead marlin to possibly sweep both marlin categories be it a white or a blue, we have been told this will end up being a tuna tournament and with the slob Bluefin being caught it will be worth fishing for them for some people. You have to decide what you want to fish for and enter and fish accordingly. We are hoping to have marlin fisherman entering this and if just 20 boats go all in on the marlin categories that 30K and it can be won if those 20 boats fish for marlin. It doesn't take 400 boats fishing to catch a qualifying fish it takes 1. We hope to build this tournament for future years but it takes participation to get things moving as well as money and man power both of which are some what limited for this first year tournament

I never said it could not be done, i hope to see it done, i just think this being a marlin KILL tournement, it should be ok to have a few marlin on the dock, not have limits so high that they most likely wont be brought to the dock. I dont think a 550 blue marlin has been caught in OC or indian river all this year, and i have heard of FEW whites even close to or over 70 since the last WMO. And to make the tournement grow, the 1st year is the most important, if people arent happy with it the 1st time and see it as a tuna tournement if the marlin deal does not work out, then thats all it will become... is a tuna tournement.
How many boats are registered so far?
At this time we have 16 confirmed boats entering and 7 pretty sures and quite a few waiting to see what the weatherman is bringing to the tournament. Our idea was to get at least 20+ boats and I feel we will meet that goal and hopefully exceed that, how you enter and what you fish for is up to you.
Our idea for future events is to have a release catagory that will win the marlin money's in the event that there is no qualifier(s) killed, but we just could not get what is needed to run a release catagory properly for this year and rather than have trouble we went with what will work. We will welcome any and all feedback and look forward to ideas from all, in the end nobody can make everybody happy all the time so we hope to please as many as possible with what we have planned.

I don't see a problem with the minimums. You are in a tournament to see who is the best. Luck may play a little part in it, but in the end it is the skilled team that brings home the money. If you want to go fish for bluefin go ahead and go for it. There are a lot of great blue fin fishemen in IR, and they may choose to go that route. We however are going billfishing and are looking for big whitey. They are out there, but you have to fish for them to find em. We had a blue hooked about 4 weeks ago in the Washington, that would go over 550, so to say you don't have a chance is a defeatest attitude. I would rather have high minimums, than some roundabout small leader circle hook rule. Any way team Sun Daze is in and in it to win it.![]()

Looking forward to this event and many more in the years to come.
