Rodsmith Power Wrapper

For all you rod builders out there, maybe you could point me in the right direction. I am interested in buying a wrapper, and my friend has the original rodsmith and it looks similar to the one mudhole still sells at 268.00. Can anyone point me in the right direction on what wrapper to buy? I am a beginner, but mostly am interested in turning jigging rods and trolling rods up to 80 class. Any info on what equipment i should get to start would be great. Anyone own this particular wrapper/dryer?

Thanks, Kevin

I've got one - and I like it - after I upgraded the chuck.

I bought the basic model and hated the chuck - had a couple of rods pull out of the plastic chuck.

Make sure that you order the upgraded chuck - especially if you will be wrapping heavier offshore rods.

I use mine as a drier for heavier rods and gaffs. It works well

Rodsmith

That unit is made by Pac Bay and is a fine machine. Have turned over 100 rods with it. I have turned everything from light spin to unl 130's triple wrapped. Have also turned gaffs, poons even bait net handles. Most of my gear are trolling outfits 50 - 130. I know Cap hates the original chuck. I have never had a problem. Custom chuck is def nicer, but a little pricey.

When I wrap a trolling outfit. I always remove the guide wheels. This makes the blank more balanced when you wrap it quickly. It also prevents the guides getting blocked up when you finish them.

Great hobby. Lot of satisfaction in catching a fish with a rod you built yourself. Also very cool to have matching custom tackle, gaffs, poons, nets...........even my shammy mops are matched.

If you go with the Rod Smith, YOU HAVE TO UPGRADE TO A METAL CHUCK, THE PLASTIC CHUCK IS TOTALLY WORTHLESS.
Other than that it's a good machine.
