Well the weather was questionable this weekend so we called off the rock fishing.I decided it's a good weekend for the annual offshore gear maintanence oh joy.First rip the reels off the rods clean the rods grease rollers and set any aside that need more attention. Then tear down the reels clean and lube check the drags and strip off the old mono. After the rods I take all my rigs and cut the mono or floro off save the lead and any hooks that still have life in them.
I'll remount the rods (make sure to put a little grease between the seat and rod)and spool some new mono.Rerig my witches ,ilanders and spreader bars.At this point I inventory my terminal gear make lists of what I'm short on.
This is all a big P.I.T.A but must be done and atleast I'm not bored or doing house work.
The second part of this will be when it warms up just a bit I'll pull everything off the boat. Then I will clean and inspect everything from safety gear and fire extinguishers to my ditch bag.Make sure to restock those first aid kits and change batteries in flashlights portable VHF's and GPS's.I go over the whole boat checking all the screws and bolts make sure everything is tight and nothing is broken.I also pull all the light covers spray the connections with corrosion blocker and check bulbs.
Thats about it what else does everyone else do?Oh Yeah dont forget to sharpen your Gaffs![]()
