We Left for the wilm. Canyon weds after noon with Ranny Sr and Ranny Jr to overnight in the wilm. Got to the east side of the wilm. around 4:30 and Capt Tim of clean sweep tells me the water warmed to 76 and if I could find the cool side of the break I would be golden, well the water was 76 fromt he 30 line out to the 100 line so I was screwed...lol. on the sat shot it looked like the water slid south to the Baltimore but it seemed to move west as I was out there so I figured it did the same at the balt. and people were catching some fish. Got the spread in and satred working the bight down to the east notch without a touch, got my ballyhoo in and before I knew it a white had poped the flatline I drop back to it but the shimano tigra 16's have a crappy freespool with the clicker on, I fumbled to take the clicker off and once I did he was gone. I re rig the ballhoo and set it back out and 1/2 hour later it pops from the flatline clip again and I fumble on that one also... we continue to troll around looking for cooler water. I went down to the west wall and down the 100 line a bit but the water just stayed the same so I went back to the east side and as I was going back the water started to cool a bit. by this time it was 9:00 pm and was getting dark, I got back over to the east side up on the hills and layed up for the night.
Next morning got the spread in and the water cooled to 72.5 but was green/blue. I worked back to where the action was before and got coverd up in small tunas 24-26 inch range. Once the spread was back in I took the wheel and the flat line pops from the clip Danny, my mate in training drop backs (I switched rods and put a tld 30 out ) and the fish eats and runs. danny comes tight witht he fish and a nice white shows itself. Danny hooked that fish perfectly with out getting all crazy. he was smooth and calm, great Job Danny!!!! So the fish was on and Ranny jr on the rod, cleared the spread and fight thte fish.
Nice white boatside ready for release. we never took the fish out of the water to snap off the shots and was swam for a bit before release.
After that release we got back up on the troll and a nice yellowfin crashed the spreader bar I was waiting for more to come but they never did. droped back the whole bit..oh well Ranny sr reeled him in and fish in the box...lol got covered up with more small yellowfin and kept one more that was 30 inches. Got the spread out again and mr white come in again and pops the flat line and danny drops back to him but he didnt take. The whites came on one bait only a b/w small islander swam next to two spreader bars from Here is a plug Adam...Canyon Runner rainbow spreader bars...so they work raising whites also. Those were speacial whites for me along with Ranny jr as that was his first white and my first at raising them. It wasnt in the plans to raise the marlin but they came, and I'll take that anyday. So that was it, not great action on the yellows as I think they moved south with the water but it was good action with the whites and small tunas.
On the way in we saw a pod of whales with what looked like some pups. It was neat to see the whales around their calfs and protecting them.
I worked around the whales but not a touch so we picked it up and ran in and was back at the dock at 12:30.
tight lines,
Captain Kobey Treadwell
