    Rigging Thread, floss, waxed, Unwaxed?

Im sure each type of bait and skirt floss has its merits or purposes. Some are waxed, some not, round or flat, brown or white...anybody have an opinion as to whats best for what?

    Kahi,

I'm not an expert by any means, but I've made most of my own for many years. I have used very small diameter dacron and nylon with very good success. I've got a spool of the rigging floss like your showing, from Joe Shutes bait and tackle. It's not as strong as the other two I mentioned, but it ties well and accepts clear nail polish good. I'm not a purest, I use clear nail polish or "Pliobond" (also can be bought from Joe). Some frown on the thought of using glue of any kind, I don't. I made my own witches when I was hookin' for king mackeral. My baits hair never came loose, may have been bit off, but never came loose. Just don't use too much. By the way Joe's screen name is "fishfinder" I believe. He can hook you up with any of the "good" stuff and advice you may need. Frank

I normally use the waxed floss - for me it seems to snug up tighter and since it sticks together, is a bit easier to keep tight while tying off the ends.

I agree...take care of those that take care of sfc...for the most part, every sponsor I have reached out to has given me a solid price, and better custom service...

I use flat waxed pretty much all the time in 15 and 30lbs. Only on jigs and a like, do i use unwaxed or nylon so I can get some glue on there to hold up over time and multiple fish.

Flat waxed all the way. Pliobond is top stuff but its hard to find (at least for me). Im getting some spectra glue this spring. It seems to be similar, anyone use it?

I use a flat waxed floss. I believe it is 60 or 70lb waxed floss. i would recommended it to anyone. Its great for a floss circle hook ballyhoo rig.

    70 lb wax thread

    Anthony,

I have been looking for 70lb thread and was wondering if you wouldnt mind sharing where you got it from. I am hoping that one of the SFC supporting shops have it but please let me know. I find the 70 much easier to work with than the 35.
