    Rigging Lures

Just got a couple new plastics to fish with for pelagics and was wondering what everyones thoughts were on rigging them. I know everyone does it different. Any thoughts on double hook vs single hooks, stiff vs semi stiff vs not stiff, and on hook location. I think ive even heard rumors of using circle hooks. Could be wrong but any input would be appreciated.

I prefer stiff, single hook rigs, normally set as far back as legal per IGFA rules. I haven't noticed a dip in hook up ratios (its improved if anything) and single hook rigs are much better for fish that are going to be released and safer for the person doing the releasing. I also like the way lures pull with a single hook. For tournaments I make cable rigs, which also get used when fun fishing but for quick rigs twisting 500-700 pound seems to work for me.

I answered this for bigger plastics. When using smaller lures we use cable, single hook rigs, always, just in case a big girl shows up when she's not supposed to be around. We also do a lot of bait and switch when using lighter tackle so we don't have to deal with making too many rigs.

Most of my lures have single hook semi-stiff rigged set with the tip of the hook exposed so it is free of the skirt. I fish mostly in the NE canyons
