    Rico Lures????

I finally purchased a few of these much talked about ballyhoo skirts but have not given them a try yet. Although I will learn and form my own opinion after fishing them a while, I am interested in input from others that have actually used them.
Are ya'll rigging them with just larger medium ballyhoo?
How do they perfom with a horse for Blues?
    Calm water bait only?
    better on Shorts or long?
How have they been on the meatfish (don't care about the Mahi, they'll eat a frayed rope)
Tell me about success with Whites and Saildogs--- I'm always skeptical about anything other than a naked ballyhoo
    Thanks

Matt, you are correct. I don't know the history (and don't care), but Skipper is listed as the distributor (???) for Rico Lures under the Rico Web site. Based on the responses to this thread, everyone must still be kepping mum on the Rico.

He posted about this lure last year with some success out at the Sea Bouy on late summer sails. Neat looking thing....very simple.

Here are the pictures Bobby. These are similar to the mini chugger by Moldcraft. When Blue Marlin fishing in Venezuela in April we use the mini chuggers and a couple of these Rico type lure/bait combos on everyone of our baits. We never use them in October. This style head really seems to raise the Blues. But when whites seem to be the prevalent target we always use the nakeds. Funny that when we did put out nakeds in the spread in april we only raised sails to the nakeds and only raised blues to the baits with this moldcraft/rico style head.

The only problem I see with these types lures/bait combo are the effectiveness of these lures with circle hooks. I have heard that some folks down south have remedied the problem but not sure if it will pass IGFA muster.

As far as OC glenn. We have trolled a version of these lures/bait combo on the right long most of the year. We have been 1 for 3 on the whites and caught 5 yellowfins on them.

    Circle Hook Rigging

I believe that as of the first of the year we start using circle hooks. How would you rig one of these with one of those? If the distributor is out there I could sure use a class.

I took a bunch of them down to Costa Rica with me last year. They are made to fit over ballyhoo. The beak really fits in the inside of those heads nice. They really throw off alot of smoke for a little teaser and look awesome in the water. I used them mostly as teasers off the riggers as bait and switch for the pitch baits. Raised alot of fish on them and some marlin too. Also used them sometimes off the end of a squid chain running off the short riggers. Also a good teaser to use teasing in a sailfish for flyfishing also. Seemed like green was my best color down here last year. I remember they make some with some kind of sparkly tinsle fiber also that looked kind of like a islander that I liked alot also.
