Capt Sean and me went out on an over night trip Friday night. It was rough but we stuck
to our plan. The overnight chunk was slow but we found some nice yellowfin east of the Elephant Trunk at 30 fathoms. There was a nice temperature break, we're hoping this is the start of the fall yellowfin run. We have more trips going this week, we'll keep you updated.
It was rough out there. Weatherman lied again!!! LOL...We were at the just outside the Teacup Friday night into Saturday also. Trolled for about an hour with no pulls before setting up for the night. Overnight chunk was very slow, even with squid under the boat. Only managed a couple bluefish. Then moved about 5 miles to Cup at 3am and then finally at about 5 am we got our first YFT on the chunk. We were hooked up with something else for almost an hour before it broke us off. We never even saw color on it... Probably a slob bluefin. We ended up with 2 YFT on the chunk and a dolphin. Then went trolling at 7:30am and managed 2 more YFT and another that pulled the hook. Got a citation Bull dolphin on the troll as well. Sardines seemed to be the bait of choice on teh chunk and skirted hoos on the troll. Had 2 baby tunas hit green squid spreaderbars. Released them for another day. All YFT we kept were in the 25-40 lb range. All that seasickness from Friday night paid off saturday morning after the wind laid down a bit...thank god.
Congrats on the fish Todd, I spoke with Cori yesterday when you guys got back and he said it was nasty all night. Glad you put some meat in the box though, pretty work.
