Fished the OC Small Boat Tourny this past weekend. Always a great event. Fished hard, and got the luck thing rolling for us too in mutiple ways...We had a game plan and stuck to it. Offshore Saturday bluefin...inshore Sunday for the little stuff.
Headed down to the Parking Lot Saturday morning looking to get our "over" bft. Great water, shearwaters everywhere. Had a 46" fish eat my homemade yellow squid spreaderbar off the flat line. Never found our over. As luck would have it, no one else did either, and that "under" fish turned out to be a winner. The fact that the weather blew-up on Sunday was a little lucky, but I guess we were really lucky the guys on the Nontypical were in the shark tournament and not the small boat...(wholly crap, can you say "enfuego" Terry Layton.)
Anyway, had a great crew of my dad, Bruce, my 7 year old son Connor (the self proclaimed "Bluefin Tuna King", fka the "Dolphin King", fka the "Croaker King"), John (Marlin)Morton & Steve (the Eagle Scout) Noel.
Good times.
