report OI matador 5/31 mixed bag

Headed out of OI with Capt Jake on the Matador. As always it was a great time. We wanted to try a few different styles of fishing plus I wanted to try some new soon to be released products again. First bite of the day belonged to Little Ernie when he bagged this beauty.

We were a little late on the morning big eye bite so we picked up and moved down the line a little where it was less crowded. 10 minutes after the move the Squidnation electric blue bar went down.

We had a 1oz becky witch on the end of it and it produced a nice yft. Lil Ernie sunk the steel as Dad wired

BTW - the super bar you see in this picture is something we are toying with. It did not catch a fish this day but it looked great and just needs some more tweaking before we release it.

Next came another nice yft on a squid chain

Big Wayne put the heat to em

Lil ernie with another perfect gaff shot. Not to shabby for an 11 yr old eh?

After relinquishing gaff duties little ernie jumped in the chair to test out our new Bridled Large Green Machine Bar. They are not on the site yet but will be next week. Here is a couple of shots of Big E making short work of this nice yft

Then it was off to the weedline to see if their were any of them slammers that we have been reading about. This one fell to an electric blue chain with a 1 oz pink beckywitch. thanks again for the great stuff becky. It really worked. Unfortunetly this one came unglued but not after a few pics.

Then it was off to do some tilefishing. I managed to keep my futile groud fish record intact as I watched Meangene and Lil Ernie crush the tiles and I never got a sniff. We also managed two of the beautiful lil creatures.

They were wrapped and almost dead when the finally made it to the boat.

Then it was off to the tower for some jigging. We managed 4 angel fish and hooked up on 4 Reef Donkeys. The butterfly jigs were awesome. we hooked up on four donkeys on four drops. Busted a couple off until meangene the crankin machine put the wood to this one.

After gaffing Tuna, Cranking on slammers and playing tug-o-war with reef donkeys Lil E was ready for a couple chocolate chip cookies and nap

Total count below. Thanks again Jake another great day,

Great report Bill and some of your best photos ever. Mahis and yellow-bellies may not be as elegant as bills, but they are beautiful just the same.
    Thanks for the post.

Andy - this was a genuine bonafide R&D trip. Work sucks but somebody has to do it

Biscoto - Thanks for the kind words nick. I kept thinking about our grouper trip while I watched Ernie and gene wax me on the tiles. I think I am jinxed on the whole groundfish thing.
