I took my step daughter Katy and her boyfriend Adam along with my old friend Jim Whaley on Sat. We met at the boat at 0530 and a thick fog
blanketed the marina. We could hear horns blowing from the OC Inlet as the Sat morning fleet dealt with zero vis.
This was to be Katy's 1st trip so we decided to forego the white knuckle nerve wracking experiance of the inlet in the fog and went for breakfast to wait it out a little. So at 0730 we passed the sea bouy and head towards the Marine Electric. 2 miles short of the wreck we came across a small school of
breaking tuna in 15f. Mark the spot and lines in. With Jim at the helm we circled the area, after 15 minutes the planer line Horse/Islander combo gets bit. Katy insists Adam gets in the chair which he does while I clear the planer
and spreader bar lines. 5 minutes later 36" BFT in the box.
No sooner do we get back to trolling speed the long 80 gets hit. This time
Katy gets in the chair and off in the distance I can see that we were drowning a bluefish with the heavy tackle. Too the boat he came without so much as a change in direction.
After pounding the area for another hour without another hit we headed for the wreck which also produced nothing. Lots of life there but no bites so we pointed N and trolled towards the Jackspot were we picked up 1 more bluefish and called it a day.
